Spreading Joy, the Giving Tree Way: A Unique New Year Celebration in 2025

This New Year, the Giving Tree Foundation in Collaboration with House Of Wisdom, Vasai stepped away from conventional celebrations and embraced a more meaningful way to welcome 2025 by celebrating with children from the Anand Nagar slum in Vasai.

Around 30 to 35 bright young souls joined us for an evening filled with laughter, learning, and love. The celebration took place on the open grounds near the Zilla Parishad school, which transformed into a vibrant space for games, activities, and heartfelt connection.

We kicked off with fun games and interactive sessions, followed by poetry recitations by the kids that truly warmed our hearts. To add a special spark, a local rapper performed, leaving the children thrilled and energized.

We also carried snacks, notebooks, and stationery, which were distributed with the help of a dedicated professor who takes tuition classes for these children. Our team engaged with the kids not just in play, but in purpose—motivating them to dream big, to use the resources they have, and to remember one powerful truth:
“You may be born poor, but don’t die poor.”

The 3-4 hours we spent together were more than just a celebration—they were a reminder of why we do what we do. Every smile, every high-five, every story shared made this New Year truly unforgettable.

Skill for Life: Vocational Training for a Brighter Tomorrow

At the Giving Tree Foundation, empowering young minds goes beyond charity—it’s about equipping them with real-life skills that open doors to self-reliance and confidence.

Over the years, we’ve conducted vocational courses whenever possible, led by experts and passionate volunteers. Notably, our very own member Hiteshvi Desai shared her expertise through a make-up artistry workshop, offering participants both creative expression and a potential livelihood skill.

We also organized drawing classes to nurture artistic talent and encourage emotional expression through art.

Recognizing the importance of personal safety, we hosted self-defence training sessions—especially for children—helping them build the strength, awareness, and skills needed to protect themselves in times of danger.

Each of these initiatives is a small but powerful step in our mission to create independent, resilient individuals ready to face the world with courage and creativity. Not just that it also helps in showcasing various mediums that one can explore to create a profession out of it.

2019 Sangli (Amnapur) Flood Relief: From Virar to a Village in Need

In 2019, the town of Amnapur in Sangli was devastated by a massive flood, submerging homes and disrupting lives.

Responding swiftly to the crisis, the Giving Tree Foundation initiated a relief drive in Virar, calling on generous hearts to donate biscuits, vegetables, blankets, pulses, clothes, books, other stationary kits, toiletries, emergency lights, and other essentials to help the affected families get back on their feet.

Once collected, our team carefully segregated, packed and organized the supplies, then our Giving Tree team made the long journey to Amnapur.

A kind local resident played a crucial role—welcoming and hosting our team with warmth, and helping us survey the village to identify genuinely affected families. His support allowed us to maximize our impact and avoid duplication. With the help of a systematic token distribution method, we ensured fair and dignified distribution of resources to those who needed them the most.

For many of our volunteers, this was their first on-ground disaster relief experience, and it left them both humbled and inspired. It wasn’t just about distributing aid—it was about restoring hope, one family at a time.

A Diwali of Dignity: Supporting Orphanages and the Visually Impaired

During the festive season of Diwali in the year of 2023, the Giving Tree Foundation lit up lives not just with lamps, but with opportunities, dignity, and inclusion.

We brought together multiple orphanages, each filled with talented individuals who hand-crafted beautiful products—from bakery items, jewellery, showpieces, keychains, and candles to drawings, purses, and crochet creations. Our goal was simple yet powerful: to give them a platform to showcase and sell their work.

With thoughtful branding and outreach, we created awareness about the cause and drew in a wonderful crowd. People came not only to shop, but to support—each purchase becoming a gesture of empowerment. It was heartening to see smiles on both sides: the joy of creating, and the joy of giving. We were also honored to host a stall by the Blind Welfare Association, whose offerings added even more depth to the event.

As always, the Giving Tree Foundation did this entirely free of cost, as part of our ongoing mission to uplift communities and bring them together.
